Reflect & Renew Part II – 2022

Tulum, Mexico

Growth. Healing. Self-Discovery

Our journey may be individual, but it doesn’t have to be alone. At a Self MAED Retreat, you will be surrounded by a community of sisters supporting each other as we forge new paths forward.

Let’s honor and celebrate our past while becoming better versions of ourselves.

By joining this retreat, sisters accepted this experience as a passage for renewal through contemplative practices or self-inquiry, rituals and celebration, story sharing, and the art of letting go.

Testimonials

The biggest benefit of coming on this retreat was having the opportunity to just focus on me and release a lot of my emotional baggage. It was a time of healing and relaxation. I was provided with the opportunity to bond with some of the most beautiful, accomplished, and talented black women I have ever met in my life. The environment created by Shannon Mae at the villa allowed us to establish sisterly bonds and presented us with the opportunity to express our feelings and opinions in a healthy safe space. It was a time where I was heard, supported and felt included. I had the opportunity to let my hair down and just be me, and that was okay.

Being around like-minded black women and hearing affirming stories made me realized that my issues aren’t unique. I realized that I needed to lean on my support system. I needed to ask for (and accept) help.

A Self MAED Retreat is where you can learn, share, bond and unify without judgement. It brought together women at the right time for the right reasons with the right process. An amazing experience that I will never forget and a connection with other sisters that will continue to grow after the retreat.

This time last week I didn’t want to be here. I just wanted a weekend to not do anything and I tried to talk myself out of this. I had a supporter remind me that this is what I wanted and this is what I have been waiting for and I am really glad I came. The things I learned this past weekend have just been really eye opening and the ability to just have a space to focus on growth and confronting the things that have held me back was enlightening. Giving myself a space to make concrete goals and write down what I want in life and how I am going to get there. I am pretty sure that if it were me at my house I wouldn’t be able to see the same results. At home, I would write in my journal every once in a while, about what I want to manifest, but even when I write it down I didn’t feel the passion behind it, the emotion behind it. Being surrounded by other like-minded women talking about their goals, their visions, and their dreams not only reignited the passion I have for my own dreams, but just rekindled that love for others.

I’ve experienced peace and progress together in a way that I never have. I really needed a space to be able to just be…in a space and not have expectations and not have a long agenda or timeline, or list of things to do, and it was very helpful for me to just be. Just breath, to walk around, and be present with no strings attached. It’s nice to do it in this space because sometimes when you try to meditate or just be in your own space it’s easy to get distracted, or you unintentionally put some type of restraint on it.

It’s nice to hang out with a group of women who look like you and understand your struggles, so we didn’t have to necessarily have to go there. I didn’t have to put on airs because I’m not sure if you understand where I am in this body. We all look alike in some form or fashion and we all get it. Spaces like this are needed to heal and to just be. I now have new lifelong connections.

You changed my life! Gave me a whole new perspective.
